Als Slot-Unterbau habe ich das Chassis eines Carrera GO Peugeot
206 genommen. Um den deutlich längeren Achsabstand anzupassen
habe ich das Chassis vor dem Motor durchgeschnitten und mit
2 zugeschnittenen Plastikstegen verlängert. |

"In
1984 R.J. Reynolds decided that they wanted to get more bang for their
advertising buck, so they announced the Winston Million bonus plan for
1985. In a nutshell, it would pay a $1,000,000 bonus to any driver who
could win three of the four biggest races on the NASCAR circuit. The
four races included the Daytona 500 (the richest), the Winston 500 (the
fastest), the World 600 (the longest), and the Southern 500 (the oldest).
Bill Elliott swept Speedweeks at Daytona. He won the pole at 205.114
mph. He dominated his 125 mile qualifying race, neatly lapping the field.
And in the Daytona 500, he led 136 of the 200 laps and won the race
easily. For the Winston 500 at Talladega, Bill won the pole at a record
209.398 mph. But on lap 48 he lost over a minute in the pits getting
repairs for a broken oil fitting. Without the help of a caution flag,
Bill made up five miles and re-took the lead on lap 145. The crowd went
crazy as Bill easily sped on to victory. The Harry Melling team got
their first chance at the million dollar bonus at Charlotte in the World
600. However, a brake failure relegated them to a disappointing 18th
place finish. At Darlington, in the Southern 500, Bill's was not the
dominant car. Harry Gant. Dale Earnhardt and Cale Yarborough combined
to lead 256 laps. As the race progressed. Gant developed engine problems
and Earnhardt crashed. Elliott very narrowly avoided the spinning car
of Earnhardt, and got another scare when Yarborough's car went up in
smoke off of turn four right in front of Bill. But in the end, by "just
racing the track and letting the others race each other,' Bill persevered
and won the race - and a record $1,053,725 winner's purse.
"Million Dollar Bill" had a record-breaking performance in 1985. Incredibly,
he did not win the Winston Cup Points Championship (he finished second)
despite winning 11 superspeedway races and 11 superspeedway pole positions.
His total winnings for the year were $2,383,186." |
